What is Seeds of Hope?

Our History — Seeds of Hope, Inc.

Seeds of Hope, Inc. was founded in 1999 by Father Glenn O’Connor with a simple but powerful vision: to create a safe, structured, and loving home for women seeking freedom from addiction. At a time when few programs focused specifically on women in recovery, Seeds of Hope stepped forward to meet a critical and overlooked need.

Inspired by faith, compassion, and the belief that every woman deserves a second chance, the organization was created to offer more than sobriety, it was built to provide stability, accountability, healing, and a pathway to a new way of life.

From the beginning, Seeds of Hope focused on women who were often left behind by traditional systems — women coming from homelessness, treatment centers, jail, prison, abusive environments, and unstable living situations. Many arrived carrying trauma, shame, and the consequences of addiction. Seeds of Hope welcomed them not as problems to be managed, but as women worth restoring.

Building a Place for Recovery and Renewal

In its early years, Seeds of Hope began as a small residential recovery home, offering structured living, peer support, accountability, and faith-centered guidance. Women were encouraged to commit to a new lifestyle rooted in recovery, responsibility, work, and personal growth.

As the program grew, so did the understanding that recovery requires more than abstinence.

  • Safe and stable housing
  • Emotional and spiritual support
  • Life skills and financial education
  • Employment opportunities
  • Community, belonging, and accountability
  • Support in rebuilding relationships and family connections

Seeds of Hope evolved into a holistic recovery community, committed to addressing the full picture of a woman’s healing — mind, body, spirit, and future.

Expanding the Mission: From Recovery to Stability

Over the years, Seeds of Hope expanded beyond transitional recovery housing to meet the growing and changing needs of women and families. This growth led to the development of additional supportive programs and housing opportunities, including the Father Glenn O’Connor Home, which provides independent living in a safe, drug-free environment for women continuing their recovery journey, and the Marvetta and Anthony Grimes Family Center & Apartments, which offers stable housing for women in recovery and their children.

Seeds of Hope also expanded into health, wellness, and life-skills services, including access to medical care, mental health support, financial education, and strong community partnerships that create pathways to employment, childcare, healthcare, and long-term stability.

Through every expansion, the heart of Seeds of Hope has remained the same: to walk with women as they move from crisis to recovery, and from recovery to independence.

A Story Written by the Women We Serve

The true history of Seeds of Hope is not written in buildings or programs — it is written in the lives of the women who have walked through its doors.

Women who once arrived with nothing have gone on to become mothers reunited with their children, homeowners, peer recovery coaches, community leaders, business owners, and mentors to other women seeking hope.

Many Seeds of Hope graduates now return to serve, volunteer, advocate, and lift up the next generation of women in recovery — proving that addiction does not define a woman’s destiny.

Leadership, Growth, and the Future

As Seeds of Hope grew, so did its leadership, vision, and reach. Today, the organization continues to expand its impact across Indiana — strengthening programs, building partnerships, advocating for justice-impacted women, and creating new opportunities for housing, healing, and generational change.

Seeds of Hope is now focused not only on recovery, but on breaking cycles of addiction, poverty, incarceration, and homelessness — ensuring that women and their children have real opportunities to thrive.

Our Legacy: Hope That Multiplies

More than two decades later, Seeds of Hope stands as a testament to what happens when faith meets action and love meets structure.

What started as a small recovery home has become a movement of restoration — a place where women rediscover their worth, rebuild their lives, and prove every day that healing is possible and hope is real.

Seeds of Hope’s story is still being written — in every woman who walks through the doors, every family restored, and every life transformed.

Weekends like this remind our women that they are worthy of love, peace, and being treated with dignity. Thank you to the O’Connor family for pouring into our Seeds of Hope ladies; and showing them what they deserve- every single year!
